While most people think of beaches and lakes for spring break, there are still plenty of places you can go skiing instead. A ski trip can be the perfect spring break for anyone wanting to change things up or go against the grain.

Spring break is a great time to go on a ski vacation. There are a number of great ski resorts that are still fully operational well into spring as a result of their high altitude. States like Utah, Wyoming, and Colorado all offer great conditions for skiers. Many of these resorts also cater specifically to spring breakers, offering amazing events.

Here are some of the best ski resorts to visit during spring break.

Best Places to Ski in Spring Break

There are quite a few options for anyone wanting to ski during spring break in North America, so this list definitely doesn’t cover all of them but it’s a good place to start.

We’ve included these resorts based on their ski quality and, of course, other aspects like events and apres-ski that will take your spring break to the next level.

Our Top Picks

    8. Winter Park Resort

    Colorado

Another Colorado ski resort means another awesome option for party-goers. Winter Park is the perfect choice for those living in the midwest.

Skiing is pretty standard for springtime Colorado – beautiful and sunny. That isn’t to say there won’t be great snowfall during the later months of the season either.

It also doesn’t hurt that Winter Park has been rated one of the best ski resorts in America.

Events like the Spring Bash make for a great time for all in attendance. Winter Park is also no stranger to amazing apres-ski. There are plenty of spots to lose track of time after the slopes close.

    7. Snow Summit – Big Bear Lake

    California

Big Bear Lake is a great option for anyone wanting to stick to the West Coast. Another huge benefit of Big Bear is the huge variety of events you can partake in.

Great skiing and snowboarding are a given, but there is so much more. Big Bear is great for anyone wanting to spend some time doing freestyle skiing or snowboarding. There is an awesome terrain park, including a halfpipe.

With Big Bear Lake itself opening during spring, fishing, boating, swimming, and hiking all become possible. There are also plenty of events to keep you busy during spring break.

There are also deals to be had, like free lift passes when staying at partner lodges.

    6. Park City

    Utah

Back to Utah for some incredible powder snow, Park City is another great option for spring break vacation.

Skiing is amazing at Park City, which has fueled the popularity of the resort for years. Food and drink options for apres-ski are also very good at Park City. What’s more, you can pop over to Deer Valley for even more options.

Another benefit of Park City is just how close it is to Salt Lake City Airport. It’s only about 27 miles!

Just be sure to book later, rather than sooner. Park City offers up to 50% discounts if you book within seven days of your trip. That’s definitely a high-risk, high-reward situation, though!

    5. Whistler Blackcomb

    British Columbia

Whistler Blackcomb is a great option for anyone living in Canada or wanting to make the trip up north. Conditions are great well into April, with solid snowfall throughout.

Another reason to check out Whistler is the deals. Spring packages can mean you can get great discounts for your trip. And if there’s one thing college students love, it’s a deal.

The World Ski and Snowboard Festival runs in the middle of April, making it one of the biggest events in skiing during spring. Live music, competitions, and amazing apres-ski will make it a spring break to remember.

    4. Aspen Mountain

    Colorado

Aspen Snowmass is yet another awesome resort to consider for spring break. There’s a reason Aspen is one of the most famous resorts in North America.

You’ll also find some excellent skiing as Aspen has the most skiable acreage in all of Colorado. Skiing at Aspen typically features great weather, good snow quality, and a wide variety of difficulties when it comes to ski runs.

Aspen also has some of the best apres-ski in all of the United States. While this isn’t the most important aspect of a ski vacation during spring break, it sure does help make choosing the right resort easier.

    3. Jackson Hole

    Wyoming

Jackon Hole is the next resort on the list. It offers some great skiing well into spring and with the added benefit of being relatively quiet compared to other spring break ski resorts.

March Radness is another awesome part of the Jackson Hole experience during spring. There are a lot of amazing activities to keep you busy after a day on the slopes.

Live music and events like the Jackosn Hole Rendezvous Festival will make for a memorable spring break. There is also a huge selection of awesome apres-ski spots to check out.

    2. Breckenridge

    Colorado

Colorado is no stranger to spring break skiing. It’s actually one of the most popular skiing destinations for partygoers, and Breckenridge is one of the best options in the whole state.

Excellent ski quality and beautiful sunny weather make Breckenridge amazing for bluebird skiing. Other activities like tubing, snowmobiling and more can also help change things up during your spring break.

Plenty of events like Mardi Gras and St. Patrick’s Day mean Breckenridge might not be for anyone looking for a more relaxed spring break, though. This is also true when you consider the numerous apres-ski patio options to begin the evenings.

    1. Alta

    Utah

Utah is known for having “The Greatest Snow on Earth,” so it comes as no surprise that it offers great conditions for a spring break ski vacation. Alta Ski Area is known for excellent snow throughout the entire snow season, well into spring.

Just be warned, Alta is a ski-only resort. Snowboarders have to look elsewhere!

Powder and bluebird skiing are common for springtime at Alta, making it great for those who still want to soak up some sun while on spring break.

Apres-ski is a bit secondary at Alta, but the skiing itself is worth the trip alone. That being said, there are a number of great options for food and drinks in the evenings.

Is Spring Break Good for Skiing?

Although the weather is warming up by spring, there are still a number of ski resorts that offer great skiing conditions.

The best option when it comes to skiing in springtime is a resort that has north-facing slopes at a high enough elevation. These two factors can help keep snow quality good well into spring.

These are usually states like Utah, Wyoming, and Colorado. For spring breakers up in Canada, Alberta and British Colombia make great choices for spring ski vacations.

    To Wrap Up

A ski trip can be the perfect solution for those unsure of what to do this spring break. While things are warming up over most of North America, there are still plenty of ski resorts that receive good snowfall well into April, making them perfect choices.
